What is Share Trading? Well according to the online dictionary "appuonline.com" share trading is " the process of buying and selling securities. The procedure of trading consists of two processes, i.e. Delivery (when securities are sold) and Receipt (when securities are purchased).
This is basically true, however the term trading is generally associated with a short term nature. Share trading talks about the purchasing and disposing of shares in a short term from anything as little as one day (Day Trade) and as much as around 6 weeks. The latter could be disputed to be called an investment rather than a trade however we think these times are a good rule of thumb.
So there you have it. it's that simple. Share trading is buying and then selling shares in a company to realize a short term gain within approximately a 6 week period.
How To Get Started In Share Trading..
There is of course no simple answer on how a beginner should get started trading in the stock market however there are a few things that can be done to increase the chance of success in the stock market.
We would recommend as a first step buying some reading material such as stock market books as they are still today one of the best methods of familiarizing yourself with the stock market, the processes involved and they often contain heaps of useful information on how to find winning share trades to help you profit from the stock market. Books are often written by extremely successful stock market traders who have been where you are today and started with nothing and no knowledge. Why make mistakes when you can learn from the mistakes they have already made? There are literally hundreds of great stock market books available for you to choose and gain knowledge from and you can read them at your leisure from the comfort of your own home. Just go to our book page to start seeing what books are available here.
After you have read some books and familiarized yourself with the stock market lingo and have a general idea of the stock market workings you should start to watch the actual market and look for shares that you think will go up in value. This is called paper trading, where you find and chose winning stocks and write your choices down on paper. Then watch them and the market and see how you go. If you are not confident enough to choose stock picks that you think will rise there are many reports available out there to choose from. There are some free stock market reports and some paid. Some of these share trading reports have excellent track records at picking winning share trades for you however of course past performance cannot be used as a definitive guide to how their future share picks will go. You can find some great Australian Stock Market reports/newsletters on our stock picks page here.

Assess your Risk Tolerance.
Before you start trading you also need to assess your risk tolerance to decide the profile of the shares you are going to chose. Many of the stock market newsletter reports available will have a risk rating next to their recommendation so you can decide if that stock pick is the right one for you. For example, if you are trading on the ASX (Australian Stock Market) and you have a very low risk tolerance. IE. you are constantly worrying about your shares when you go to bed at night, then you wouldn't buy shares in a a start up company without a proven track record.. You would instead buy shares, probably that are in the top 200 index by market capitalistaion as these are shares with a proven track record of getting profits and results for shareholders and wear much less risk to the investor.
Ok so now you are just about ready to place your first trade in the share market. You are now only missing one thing which is of course a stock broker or share broker.
There are literally hundreds of stock brokers to choose from these days, all of whom offer varying degrees of service. Some are simply discount online brokers where you have to place the trade yourself online right up to full service brokers who attend to your every need, place the trade on your behalf and give you trade advice. They of course charge at a premium for this service.
